HAMPTON ROADS

In our community, the structures of substance use disorder are deeply entrenched, much like buildings standing within a system of silos and cycles. These silos represent the fragmented efforts of various organizations, each dealing with a different aspect of the issue, and the cycles signify the recurring challenges that the community faces. Now, picture our coalition as the demolition team in this scenario.

Our mission is to not only bring down these old structures but to ensure that the results of our efforts endure long after we've finished our work. Just as a demolition team carefully plans every move, we must meticulously plan every aspect of our coalition building, from identifying the right tools and strategies to involving each stakeholder. But here's the twist: our objective isn't just to level these structures; it's to empower the community to take control.

In this metaphor, the rubble left behind represents the sustainable outcomes we aim for. The community members, once impacted, must become the builders of the new, resilient structures in place of those demolished. Our goal is to hand them the tools, the knowledge, and the confidence to construct a safer and healthier environment themselves.

So, when we secure funding for our coalition and its initiatives, it's not just about tearing down the old, but about teaching our community how to build anew, break the silos, and disrupt the cycles. In this way, we ensure that our results are not temporary fixes but lasting solutions, providing a better future for everyone.

Demolition is a metaphor that illustrates the transformational role of the coalition in breaking down existing silos and cycles while emphasizing the sustainability of the impact within the community.
